Pakistan has offered to buy Myanmar rice in the country under the government-to-government system, official media reported. Pakistan is the next target as a rice exporting country in Myanmar as part of its efforts to accelerate export crops.
Despite the lack of technology, Myanmar competes with countries in the region, such as Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, India and Pakistan in the rice market. About 80 percent of Myanmar’s rice exports go to China, mainly through cross-border trade.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce, one week from 17 to 23 December, the export of rice from Myanmar to China through the border trade amounted to 34,126 tonnes, which was 8,826 tonnes more than the previous week.
Other exporting countries include Indonesia, Singapore, European countries, Africa, Russia and Brazil. In the last fiscal year 2015-2016, the country exported 767,753 tonnes of rice to foreign countries.
